Why Aftermarket?
That's simply answered: Aftermarket is cheaper and often just as high (or higher) quality than factory OEM parts from OMC, Mercury, Yanmar, and other manufacturers. Some of the prices that they charge for parts should be criminal! Take this Mercury Quicksilver Fuel Pump for example. Mercury's parts brand "Quicksilver" sets a retail price of $428.43 for this part. So if you walk in to your local Mercury dealership and order this part it will run you over four hundred dollars, and similar prices can be found throughout the internet as well. But here at Marine Surplus? That same fuel pump is just $49. Forty nine bucks. Two digits - not three!
Does aftermarket work as well as OEM?
In every case with the parts we've chosen to carry, YES! The original equipment manufacturers (OEM) will
have you believe that somehow the quality of their parts is better but that's simply not the case. As a matter of fact, the "Name Brand" OEM parts are often produced in exactly the same factories as the aftermarket parts that we have here at Marine Surplus. That means that our aftermarket parts are the same quality, and are direct fit replacement parts for the OEM branded versions. They bolt right up, and work just the same.
What about the warranty or guarantee?
We have it - we give it - and we'll honor it. For any aftermarket parts that we sell at Marine Surplus we'll honor the manufacturer's equivalent warranty. If, for example, the OMC Ignition Coil you ordered from us dies before it's time we'll just send you another one. But... It won't! It's a brand new part that has been vetted and guaranteed to be just as good or better than the factory OEM part.
